If music be the food of love

Tragedy, comedy and historical drama - Shakespeare's plays cover most of what people feel, dream and think. Maybe even what we wish we didn't think?

Here we hear excerpts from some of Shakespeare's most famous plays, such as The Tempest, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Macbeth, and Twelfth Night, or What You Will. The dramatic, dreamy, beautiful and sometimes vulgar texts from the plays are intermixed with some of our main character's sonnets.

The choral music written with Shakespeare's texts includes some of the great pieces of the choral repertoire, such as Frank Martin's Songs of Ariel and Ralph Vaughan Williams' Three Shakespeare Songs. In this program we will hear parts of these works, as well as some less known songs by Bob Chilcott, Amy Beach and Nils Lindberg.
