You shall plant a tree
Concert with timeless music by Claudio Monteverdi and Per Nørgård
The Academy Chamber Choir of Uppsala, UAK, is now performing its first concert with Rebecka Gustafsson as conductor and artistic director. Timeless music by Per Nørgård and Claudio Monteverdi will be performed together with lutenist John Martling.
At the beginning of the 17th century, Monteverdi suffered the great grief of the loss of a loved one. Lagrime d'Amante al Sepolcro dell'Amata - A Lover's Tears at the Grave of a Loved One - is written in memory of the deceased and processes and expresses the pain, but also praises the beauty of the lost one, and how the heavens and earth appear, join in, and together carry the mourner onwards.
This concert program explores grief, birth, the continuous change and the power of nature. You shall plant a tree; you must do a deed that lives on, even after your own time. Somewhere in the darkness there is something beautiful and budding, and we cannot always tell the two from each other until much later. But the earth will remember you, as it remembers the grass and the forests. (Per Lagerkvist)
